Take your seats for a spectacular celebration of pride, protest, passion and diversity. This is Mardi Gras like you’ve never seen it before, in one of Sydney's most iconic venues.
Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) is one of the oldest continuously operating LGBTQI+ organisations in Australia. SGLMG was built on the foundations laid by early community activists who fought for LGBTQI+ rights in a time of wide-spread, institutionalised oppression and discrimination. From these origins, SGLMG has evolved to include a strong focus on celebration while maintaining a commitment to social justice for LGBTQI+ communities.
It’s game on for the 43rd Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade – on Saturday 6 March 2021 we’re transforming the Sydney Cricket Ground into a stunning and sparkling showcase of LGBTQI+ culture and community.
Feel the energy of the crowd and gaze in wonderment at what we can create together. Join the stadium audience of families, friends and allies, where you’ll witness a colourful cavalcade starring 5,000 paraders from over 100 LGBTQI+ community groups. The 2021 Parade will take inspiration from its past and move away from large floats, focusing instead on the outlandish pageantry of vibrant costumes, puppetry and props that made it such a phenomenon in its earliest years.
There's no more perfect combination of passion and people than The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade. Every year, hundreds of thousands of spectators from all over the world bring the city to a standstill as they cheer on a jaw dropping parade of over 12,000 fabulous people from all corners of the LGBTIQ communities.
This dizzying spectacle flows like a river of queer humanity, switching effortlessly between sexy satire and from high brow to sequined eyebrow. Tying it all together is an overarching sense of love and a joyous celebration of the hard won freedom to be whoever you are.
